PDR –> CDR –> Production Readiness review process

PDR is conducted after preliminary design efforts are complete but before commencement of detail design. This review is the first opportunity our clients have to closely observe the development of the product and is also where we describe all design challenges and provide rationale for any potential design changes. Typically, we would provide a hardware or hands-on demonstration of some of the preliminary designs to better illustrate important aspects.

CDR is typically conducted for each configuration item before release of the design for manufacturing. For large and complex configuration items, a number of detailed CDR’s may be needed as a progressive or incremental review to ensure adequate interfaces between the configuration items.

– Determine that detail design satisfies cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
– Establish detail design compatibility among all of the configuration items and to review configuration item risk areas.
– Review of the detailed design, performance, and test characteristics of the design solution, and on the adequacy of the operation and support documents.
– Production Readiness – To ensure training, processes, and procedures are in place in order to effectively operate and manage the application once in production.
